While winter weather has been absolutely relentless across north central Wisconsin this month, it’s never too early to start thinking about severe weather. National Weather Service meteorologists from Green Bay, La Crosse, and Duluth will be making stops all around north and central Wisconsin during March and April offering a free 1.5-2 hour training course to anyone who is interested in becoming an official Skywarn weather spotter. You’ll learn how to identify and report severe weather such as large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. These courses are open to the public with no registration required, except for the Rhinelander spotter course, which you need to contact the EM office at 715-361-

If you can’t make it to one of the in person courses, the National Weather Service in La Crosse and Green Bay will offer online webinars.
If you live in Taylor, Clark, Jackson, Juneau, or Adams counties, the online webinars will be offered at 1 p.m. on March 20th, and 7 p.m. on March 28th, but you must click here to register.
If you live in Marathon, Wood, Portage, Waushara, Waupaca, Shawano, Lincoln, Langlade, Oneida, Vilas, Menominee, Forest, or Florence counties, you’ll have to register for the online course with the National Weather Service in Green Bay, but dates and time have not yet been listed.
